Quartet for flute, saxophone, bassoon and cello

Chamber music for saxophone and other instruments is rather rare – which is I why I wrote this quartet. The score is here. The sheet music parts below. This work has also been arranged for saxophone quartet by Ellis Hendriksen.

The sound files above were recorded at two different concerts. One quartet is Adrienne Byrne (flute), Mark Crompton (saxophone), John Cran (bassoon) and Sonia Koo ('cello). The other is Anna Naylor (flute), Joe Wolfe (saxophone), Petrina Slaytor (bassoon) and Guy Curd ('cello).

About the composer. Joe Wolfe started writing music in the seventies and has since written sporadically for jazz and fusion groups, including incidental music for plays and films. He has written several orchestral works, including the overture Circle of Fourths and a Trumpet concerto. "The Stairway Suite" is a set of orchestral variations on the pop song "Stairway to Heaven" in the styles of Schubert, Holst, Glen Miller, Mahler, Bizet and Beethoven; "Sydney Sketches" is a set of tone poems, each of which is based in different Sydney location at a different time of day.; "Conjunction" is an 'interactive introduction to the orchestra', written for orchestra and primary school choir; and an "overture" to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the UNSW Orchestra.
