Research in guitar acoustics

Two aspects of the research in the Musical Acoustics Group are related to the acoustics of the guitar family of instruments. John Dunlop and his students work on the acoustic properties of different woods, especially those from Australia and Indonesia. John Smith and Joe Wolfe have developed a simple system for measuring transfer functions rapidly. Thomas Erndl has applied this to guitars and to guitar plates. Ra Inta is a PhD student working on a collaborative project with Gilet Guitars. We shall put more details of this project on the web when we have published the latest work.
